Schizophrenia is a mental condition that afflicts about one percent of the US population. It is a chronic, severe, and disabling disorder and those suffering from it have deficits in thought processes, perceptions, and emotional responsiveness. Most people have a family member, relative, or someone they know who has this illness. Doctors treat this condition with antipsychotic medications which can have severe side effects. But, unfortunately, in most cases, these meds are necessary in order to treat the individual's erratic behavior and thoughts. I am not aware of any natural treatments that cure the condition or are an adequate replacement for the required medications. However, some new research offers a little hope for those in their teens who have a predisposition to this mental illness.
