Combining with other sexual enhancing herbal formulas
Q. I am using Passion Rx with Yohimbe and I have had good success. I was thinking of adding tribulus terrestris capsule. Is this okay to do?
A. We suggest not using Passion Rx and Tribulus extract the same day since too much stimulation and rapid heart beat can occur. You may take Tribulus terrestris on a day that you are off Passion Rx. Most people don't need Passion Rx more than 3 days a week. Consider the Natural Boosters package that provides this herbal extract along with 6 other aphrodisiac herbs for an holistic and full enhancement.
Side effects, safety, risks, is there any danger?
High dose Tribulus side effects include restlessness, feeling too stimulated, and insomnia. Always start with a portion of a capsule if you are very sensitive to herbal supplements. Tribulus side effects may increase when combined with other high potency herbs. See this Tribulus article for a complete list of adverse reactions and the latest research.

Q. I am very interested in tribulus supplements. Could you please tell me any drug interaction with Synthroid (for hypothyroid) and tribulus supplements. I have a low thyroid problem.
A. There have not been adequate studies regarding the combination of Tribulus supplements and Synthroid or other thyroid hormones. If you plan to use Tribulus extract, start with half of a capsule and discuss with your doctor. It is a good idea if you are taking medicines and plan to add a dietary supplement to your regimen to use a low dosage the first few days.
Antidepressant medications, Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Celexa
Q. Can tribulus terrestris supplement be used together with antidepressant medications? I am on Zoloft which is a SSRI medication used for depression.
A. Unexpected reactions can occur when medicines, such as antidepressants, are combined with potent herbs. If you do plan to use Tribulus terrestris supplement, we suggest no more than 200 mg.
Influence on testosterone levels, bodybuilding
Q. Does tribulus use increase testosterone? I am a body builder and read in a magazine that this plant helps increase testosterone levels in the body and was good for bodybuilding.
A. Human studies regarding testosterone increase with the use of Tribulus terrestris have not shown consistent results and most likely it does not have a strong influence on this hormone. Even if a Tribulus terrestris supplement does increase testosterone production or influence the release of testosterone, we don't know if this effect persists over time. We are not convinced that this herbal supplement is effective for the purposes of bodybuilding.
Research review regarding testosterone influence
J Ethnopharmacology. 2015. Androgen Enhancing Effects of Tribulus terrestris: Fact or Fiction. It has been long believed that Tribulus terrestris possesses aphrodisiac properties purportedly attributed to its ability to influence levels or mimic function of enchancing hormones. An extensive review of the literature was carried out. Analysis of phytochemical and pharmacological studies in humans and animals revealed its important role for treating desire problems; however, evidence to support the hypothesis that these desirable effects are due to androgen or testosterone enhancing properties is, at best, inconclusive. There is emerging evidence from experimental studies in animals for possible endothelium and nitric oxide-dependent mechanisms underlying the aphrodisiac and pro-erectile activities.
Combining with other herbal products
Q. Is it okay to take tribulus terrestris with tongkal ali, or Mind Power Rx?
A. We prefer that you take Tribulus terrestris by itself and not mix it the same day with other products or herbs until you are completely aware of how different doses of Tribulus influence you. Tongkat ali is very potent. You could take the mind enhancing herbal formula on a day when you are not taking the aphrodisiac herbs.
Hypertension, medications for blood pressure
Q. I am on blood pressure medications. Will tribulus terrestris supplement raise my blood pressure or influence hypertension?
A. Not enough human research is available to determine the effect of Tribulus terrestris supplement on blood pressure but we have not had any feedback thus far that indicates any concerns. The effect of the herb is dose dependent. Low dosages may not have much of an effect on blood pressure. However, unexpected reactions can occur when drugs and herbs are combined, especially in high dosages. Start with half a capsule and monitor your blood pressure over several days to see if the Tribulus supplement has any effect on your hypertension.
Legality in sports and athletic competition
Q. Is tribulus a legal supplement to use by professional athletes? Will a drug test find that the herb is being used?
A. As far as we know, Tribulus terrestris supplement is legal to use in all professional sports. We have not seen any studies that Tribulus terrestris supplements enhance athletic performance. A drug test will not detect the herb.
Safety for liver and kidneys
Q. I'm taking tribulus terrestris as a part of my workout supplements. I'm taking 1000 mg of it, is this safe for my liver and kidneys? I have heard that this plant is great for the liver and kidneys, I just wanted to make sure.
A. Long term studies are not available to know the full benefits and side effects and its influence on liver or kidney health, but thus far no major concerns have been raised in the medical literature. It is a good idea to take frequent breaks.
