Increase alertness
December 14, 2016

Benefit
L-Tyrosine 500 mg amino acid is a Dietary Supplement that helps increase alertness. *

How it works
L Tyrosine is not an essential amino acid since it can be made from the amino acid phenylalanine. When taken as a supplement it is converted into the catecholamines dopamine and norepinephrine which act as neurotransmitters.

Natural brain booster
Would you like to improve alertness, mood, focus, and mental stamina?

Consider Mind Power Rx, a popular brain enhancing nutritional product with a dozen herbs and nutrients formulated by world renowned nutrition expert Ray Sahelian, M.D.

To decrease appetite
Diet Rx all natural appetite suppressant pills works very well and much better than Tyrosine amino acid.

To improve mood
Many report improvement in mood from taking 5-HTP, much more so than taking tyrosine pills although there are some individuals who prefer the latter.

Combining with B vitamins
Q. I recently purchased several bottles of your L-Tyrosine supplement (500 mg x 30 caps), along with some other natural products. Since then I've read that tyrosine supplementation may be more effective if it is taken as a multivitamin-mineral complex, mainly because vitamins B6, folic acid and the copper mineral help in its conversion to other important substances in the body and brain.
A. We do not think it is necessary to take B vitamins or other vitamins and minerals along with it for the purpose you mention since most people have plenty of these already in their body to convert this amino acid and metabolize it. However multivitamins can have benefits and one such high quality product is Multi-Vit Rx.

Dosage, how much is the right amount
Q. Regarding L-Tyrosine dosage: I've read papers online that have studied plasma tyrosine concentration in regular subjects, and the dosage in the studies confirm 100 mg /kg /day is a suitable dosage. Since my mass is 76 kg, this would amount to 7.6 grams per day, which is approximately 15 x 500 mg caps. I note however that the dosage instructions on the bottle state "As a dietary supplement take 1 capsule daily with or without meals." It seems to me there's a pretty big difference between 1 capsule per day and 15 capsules. Am I misunderstanding anything?
A. Sometimes research studies miss obvious adverse reactions that people in real life settings experience. An amount greater than 500 mg often causes nervousness, increased heart rate and anxiety.

L-Tyrosine side effects, safety, caution, danger, risk

Always start with a small portion of a capsule to see your reaction before proceeding to higher amounts. Consult your doctor before using l-tyrosine in case you have a heart condition or are taking medications. Adverse effects may be more prominent if this supplement is combined with SAM-e, St. John's wort, ginseng, sex enhancing herbs, phenylalanine amino acid, and any other nutrient or herb that has a stimulating nature. Tyrosine side effects could occur when this supplement is combined with antidepressant medication such as SSRIs, or amphetamine-like drugs.
