Turmeric Root (Curcuma Longa) has been used for 4000 years medicinally and contains curcumin, a powerful antioxidant.

What is in the plant, review
Turmeric (Curcuma longa) has a long history worldwide as a health-promoting botanical. Modern research has identified a group of compounds known as curcuminoids as predominantly responsible for its beneficial effects.

Curcumin is the extract found in the spice turmeric root. Curcumin contains curcuminoids (including curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxy-curcumin). Turmeric in Latin is Curcuma longa. The roots of the plant are stem like and are used as an herb in Asian cooking such as curries.

Benefit
Curcumin has antioxidant properties and supports cholesterol levels already in the normal range. This product combines a concentrated turmeric extract, standardized to 95% curcuminoids, with whole turmeric rhizome. Combining these active constituents with the whole herb ensures that all the important compounds of the botanical are present.

Suggested use, how much to take
As a dietary supplement, take one to four capsules on an empty stomach or with breakfast or lunch or as recommended by your health care provider.

How often to take, dosage
Q. Can a turmeric curcumin supplement be taken daily for prolonged
periods and in what dosage?
A. Probably, but just to be on the safe side since we don't fully know the long term effects of curcumin and turmeric when used as a supplement, it may be a good idea to take a day or two off a week, unless your doctor is treating a particular medical condition with this product and wants you to be on it daily. As to the dosage, it is difficult to say since it depends on the individual and their medical condition, but one or two capsules a day seems safe for most people.

With or without food
Q.
Is it more effective to take curcumin/turmeric with meals, or a few hours later?
A. We still have not seen comparative studies regarding intake with food or empty stomach to know whether it is better absorbed with a meal or without. Perhaps until we know more one can alternate the intake at times with, and at times without, food.

Combining with a multivitamin formula
Q.
Is it okay to take a capsule of MultiVit Rx and a capsule of curcumin supplement together?
A. It should be okay but first try the MultiVit Rx and curcumin supplements on separate days. If no problems, then you can take them together.

Testosterone influence
Q.
Is there research on the effect of curcumin supplement on testosterone in men. Is it known to interfere - by raising, or lowering - testosterone? Or does curcumin have no effect on hormone levels whatsoever?
A. We have not seen any research on the influence of curcumin supplement on testosterone levels or the levels of other hormones in the body or brain.

Curcumin is an extract of turmeric herb
Turmeric is a plant native to south India and Indonesia. Its tuberous rhizomes have been used from antiquity as a condiment, as a textile dye and medically as an aromatic stimulant. Curcumin is the substance that gives the spice turmeric its yellow color. Curry powder, which is extensively used in Indian cuisine, is largely made of turmeric.
