Footnotes
Q. Why is it that your avena sativa is only 200 mg a day? Other avena sativa brands can be taken at 350 mg 6 times a day, whats the difference between your avena sativa and the other products? I also learned that there is a liquid form, which can be taken at 1 ml a day (that's 1000 mg alcohol extract). Isn't that too much considering that you recommend 200 mg a day. Why is your dose so small?
A. Many consumers do not know that herbs come not only in regular powder, but in extracts that can be concentrated several fold. Therefore, it is not only important to learn what extract potency you are buying (in this case the Avena sativa is 5 to 1), but also the milligrams per dose. Many times when directions are given on the bottle for the number of times a capsule should be taken, this is written by marketing people, not by nutritional experts or doctors. This Avena sativa product is formulated by Dr. Sahelian who has tested it himself to determine the ideal dosage. The doctor believes in using the right amount to avoid side effects that occur with herbs when misused. We are not familiar with the liquid form of Avena sativa.
Side effects, adverse reactions
Q. Are you aware of any avena sativa side effects, negative reactions?
A. We are not aware of any significant Avena sativa side effects. None have been reported to us by our customers and we are not aware of any serious adverse reactions mentioned in the medical literature. In our experience, when we have taken several capsules of an Avena sativa supplement, we noticed increased heart rate and insomnia. At present we are not aware of studies that have evaluated this plant extract in terms of its effects on blood pressure, heart health, blood sugar or diabetes, thyroid gland or prostate gland. See the latest research on Avena Sativa side effects.
Testosterone levels influence
Q. Is avena sativa a good aphrodisiac or libido enhancer? Does it raise testosterone levels?
A. Avena sativa has a mild and pleasant aphrodisiac effect, but not as potent as horny goat weed, tribulus, muira puama, maca, tongkat ali, yohimbe, catuaba, and other natural aphrodisiacs. We have not seen studies regarding its influence on testosterone levels. The most effective aphrodisiac formula that we carry is Passion Rx with Yohimbe.
Male enhancement natural product?
Q. Would you consider avena sativa to be a male enhancement herb?
A. Depends on how you define male enhancement. If you mean enlargement of the penis beyond its genetic anatomical limitations, no. We are not aware of herbs that make the penis anatomically larger.
Most potent natural aphrodisiac
Q. Which is a more potent aphrodisiac herb, tongkat ali extract, maca extract, avena sativa extract, or tribulus terrestris extract?
A. It depends on the concentration of the extracts, but as a general rule, Tongkat Ali is the most potent aphrodisiac herb.
