Acetyl-L-Carnitine, 500 mg, 100 Capsules, Cognitive Function
Acetyl-L-Carnitine supplement pill
500 mg per Capsule
Dosage, review, how much to take, when to take

Benefit, how it works
Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) plays an important role in the human body. This nutrient shuttles acetyl groups and fatty acids into mitochondria for energy production and to enhance brain function.
Better mental function, how fast does it work
The mind boosting effect of ALC is often noticed within a few hours. Most people report feeling mentally sharper, having more mental stamina, having more focus and being more alert.
- Enhances Cognitive Function
- Improves Energy Production
- Supports Clarity of Thinking
- Improves Brain Energy Metabolism
Suggested use, how much to take, when to take
As a dietary supplement, take one 500 mg capsule in the morning on an empty stomach a few minutes to a half hour before breakfast or as recommended by your health care provider.
Long term use dosage
This cognitive enhancing supplement product has 500 mg. Our experience tells us that most people do well with 100 to 500 mg daily with occasional breaks. There are pills sold that are 500 mg or more, but we think adverse reactions can occur on these high doses.
ALC has a more immediate mental effect than does a carnitine supplement pill. Both of these important nutrients shuttle acetyl groups and fatty acids into mitochondria for energy production. Without carnitine, fatty acids cannot easily enter into mitochondria. The acetyl group of acetyl-L-carnitine is used to form acetyl-CoA, the most important intermediary in the generation of energy from amino acids, fats, and carbohydrates. Both acetyl-L-carnitine and carnitine help improve energy production. The acetyl group of acetyl-L-carnitine is also used to make the important brain chemical acetylcholine. Some studies suggest that acetyl-L-carnitine can even act as a neurotransmitter itself.
Side effects, safety, caution
For a full discussion of negative reactions that may occur, visit side effects of acetyl-L-carnitine article, which also reviews the latest research and benefits. Some common side effects are feeling too stimulated or feeling restless. High dosages can cause nausea, upset stomach, irritability and shallow sleep.

High quality product
This cognitive enhancement product is made from the highest quality acetyl-L-carnitine raw material available. You will find this nutrient sometimes spelled as acetylcarnitine.
Multiple benefits in different formulas
We have two doctor-developed products that include Acetylcarnitine in their formulas. These are Diet Rx for appetite suppression and Mind Power Rx to improve mental function. Diet Rx also has 5-HTP and more than a dozen beneficial herbs and nutrients.
Combining with anti-obesity drugs for weight loss
Q. I am a medical doctor specializing in weight loss. I have patients who take some of the following anti-obesity drugs. Can acetyl-L-carnitine be combined with the following meds?
Adipex-P Phentermine
Alli Orlistat
Belviq, Belviq XR Lorcaserin
Bontril PDM, Bontril SR Phendimetrazine
Desoxyn Methamphetamine
Didrex Benzphetamine
Diethylpropion
Meridia Sibutramine
Qsymia Phentermine and topiramate extended-release capsules
Suprenza Phentermine
Xenical Orlistat
Contrave Bupropion hydrochloride-naltrexone hydrochloride
Saxenda Liraglutide
A. We are not aware of research with these combinations. If combined we suggest using half of the normal dose of each.
Research
Neurochem Res. 2017. L-Carnitine and Acetyl-L-carnitine Roles and Neuroprotection in Developing Brain. L-Carnitine functions to transport long chain fatty acyl-CoAs into the mitochondria for degradation. Treatment with L-carnitine can ameliorate metabolic imbalances in many inborn errors of metabolism. In recent years there has been considerable interest in the therapeutic potential of L-carnitine and its acetylated derivative acetyl-L-carnitine (ALCAR) for neuroprotection.
