Bromelain is a protease enzyme and a Dietary Supplement

Bromelain is an enzyme from the pineapple plant which accelerates the breakdown of proteins. It is active in a wide pH range and can function in the acidic environment of the stomach. Bromelain is a combination of several protein-digesting enzymes along with peroxidase, acid phosphatase, protease inhibitors, and calcium. Bromelain is most often used to help digestion and help reduce inflammation.

Bromelain side effects
Bromelain supplements do not seem to have any obvious side effects with short term use. Bromelain supplement sat 800 mg a day were given to a group of patients for a period of 12 weeks without any significant bromelain side effects reported.
