How is AHCC mushroom extract made?
AHCC is an extract of mycelium obtained through the long-term cultivation of several types of basidiomycetes medicinal mushrooms including shiitake. Different brands and companies, which is the best AHCC product
Q. I have seen various forms of AHCC, Immpower AHCC and Kinoko AHCC. Which form of AHCC is best?
A. There are several AHCC products available, including ImmPower made by American Biosciences and Kinoko by Quality of Life labs. According to the manufacturer, ImmPower is Active Hexose Correlated Compound, developed by combining several species of mushrooms used in traditional Japanese healing to make one, extremely powerful, hybridized mushroom. This hybridized mushroom is grown in a liquid medium containing rice bran and enzymatically modified to be readily absorb-able.
Kinoko AHCC is made by Quality of Life Labs. Several other companies private label AHCC including Source Naturals and NOW Foods. It is not easy to tell at this time which AHCC product is the best.

Combining with other mushroom extracts: agaricus, cordyceps, maitake, reishi
Q.
Can an AHCC supplement be used the same day as other mushroom extracts such as agaricus, reishi, cordyceps, maitake, and others?
A. It's difficult to say since human studies are not available regarding the combination of an AHCC supplement with other mushroom extracts. We also don't know how this dietary supplement interacts in those who take it with astragalus, andrographis, echinacea, elderberry, goldenseal, or other herbs used for immune system health.

Combining with drugs used for chemotherapy
Q. I am a cancer specialist and some patients with breast cancer and colon cancer have asked if AHCC can be combined with some chemotherapy medications. What is the research on this?
Cyclophosphamide, Cytoxan
Docetaxel, Taxotere
Doxorubicin, Adriamycin
Epirubicin Ellence
Methotrexate Maxtrex
Paclitaxel, Taxol
A. Very little research is available regarding the combination of AHCC or other mushroom extracts with drugs used for chemotherpay. It is difficult to predict the interactions.
